Hello crew! Welcome back! Sorry for getting our report out so late, there were technical issues with the ship that have now been sorted out. Thank you for your patience!
This week we are returning to visit Diigo for the last time. Diigo has been a valuable resource in my studies as a captain. While I do not intend to introduce it to a classroom setting, it has already proven useful for me as an individual. I like that it allows me to annotate websites and PDFs, but aside from that, I find the interface to be chaotic when being used in a classroom. I would suggest this resource to future students, but I would not make it a part of group projects.
Powerpoint can be very useful within a classroom setting. It can even be used to achieve every level of Bloom's taxonomy in a single lesson. The main way that power point is able to do this is for any given lesson, powerpoints are designed to be short bits of information given at a time. This enables viewers to have an easier time remembering and understanding the content. Particularly in a math lesson, I have seen powerpoint being used by an instructor quite successfully. A lot of these levels cannot necessarily be easily achieved by an instructor, however. Instead, individual projects in which students have to apply the knowledge they have gained with have a greater impact.
Lastly, let's address teacher professional development in regards to technology. Teachers need to stay on top of new technology in order to determine what can be useful in a classroom setting. This way they can implement technology in their classrooms to further aid in the student's ability to learn. A good way for teachers to do this is by staying up to date with social media sites such as twitter and reddit where conversations about new forms of technology are common. I can also suggest keeping up to date with websites like Forbes. They constantly address technological advancements. I have included a screenshot below as an example.

Hey,
ReplyDeleteI think you brought up a great point with teachers using platforms like Twitter and Reddit to stay informed. Sometimes, we think social media is not as effective for education but, in reality, it is a great way to see what students are talking about and what other teachers are feeling about certain type students of technology.
I really enjoyed reading your post and thought you brought up some good points! Especially how PowerPoint could be utilized within Bloom's taxonomy to sort pieces of information. This will certainly allow students to break down the content and make it easier to understand and remember.
